Very helpful review. Hovey’s recommendation that "At some point every Christian needs to explore the intellectual justifications for their faith" seems to be well considered in light of Barker’s personal biography. Hovey recommends a couple of books in that pursuit. Are there any others you would especially recommend Dr. Groothuis? And when will your new book be available?
For my part, I just finished David Bentley Hart’s Atheist Delusions: The Christian Revolution and Its Fashionable Enemies and it is first rate. Among other things, Hart explains how atheists (like Barker it seems) routinely smuggle in the social ethics of Christianity while denying its foundation.
