Contrast (for Allan Bloom)

Poets, prophets, and sages
have baffled and dazzled
with profound phrases,
given in slow stages,
requiring pages
and pages.

Pundits, politicians, and celebrities
now impress and depress
with idiotic inanities,
flashed in quick images,
requiring nothing
but stupidities.

Beautiful yet sad. You nailed it. The profound has indeed been overshadowed by the much less intellectually taxing world of mindless triviality.
