Truth so often goes begging...in God's world.
Who will speak truth to power, come what may?
Who will live truth before power, come what may?
Who will seek power only through truth in God's world, come what may?
At the end of the day, who will love truth for itself--in God, for God, with God, under God, before God?
Who will find solace--and suffering--in nothing else?

Come What May: A Lament in Six Cries

I was in the grocery checkout line today and there was a woman in front of me who had a tattoo of two hands brought together in prayer position. Across the knuckles of the outside hand were the letters L I E S.
I really wanted to ask this woman what the meaning of the tattoo was (although I am pretty sure I know), which could have then lead to a conversation about what truth is, how we know (epistomology), etc. but I wimped out and I regret it. If someone is going to wear something like this on their body for the rest of their life and display it to the public, it becomes a public message. I could have just said "would you mind if I ask you about the meaning of one of your tattoos?"... but again, I wimped!
She is so convinced that religious beliefs (probably Christianity specifically) are not true, that she tattooed this image to her body.
She is probably a wounded soul who never learned to lament and cry with friends.
