A forum for discussing matters of moment, from a curmudgeonly perspective. (The ideas posted here do not necessarily represent those of any organization with which I am a part). Rude and insulting remarks will not be published, but civil disagreement is welcome.

"Queen of Zero Tolerance" ?
Oy. Just when you think you're curmudgeonly enough, somebody raises the bar.
Not too long ago, I told a couple of guys to watch their language and I thought they were about to slug me.
What I would really like to do one day is rat on the guy who doesn't wash his hands in the public restroom to the girl whose hand he is now holding.
However, I'd probably get slugged for that, too.
My cousin recently gave me "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" - I'll put this sequel in the reading queue...though this is probably mandatory reading for the Christmas season.
Yes, there should be some way to publicly mark those who don't wash their hands after deficating or urinating. I cannot speak for women (of course), but too many men bypass the necessary abulutions after elimination. This is just unthinkable to me (and, no, I am hardly anal retentive). I suppose video cameras in the john won't quite work. There is too much room for abuse... Maybe this would work: If the water in the sink doesn't run after the water in the toilet runs, a loud alarm would go off and the authorities (whoever they might be) could be summarily summoned. I know, I sound rather desperate.
Doug,
I think there are a lot of parents out there who would readily employ such an alarm system were it available...perhaps you're onto something.
So let me get this straight: a guy who walks around remotely turning off other peoples' TV sets is now advocating we use better manners?
Oh no! There they go again attacking me about my TV-B-Gone! It hasn't been working lately, sadly. It is good manners, of course, to turn off cultural pollutants.
