My Logo

I'm branded.
I am my own brand.
Brand new, brand now!

My logo, myself.
It could all change tomorrow.

Image is everything.
My image is everything.
Your image is "whatever."

Everything is nothing to "me."

I have a body double.
I have a personality double.
I'll take a double espresso.

Every body fakes it.
Why not "me"?

I can reinvent myself endlessly
Without anchor, without rudder...
I float--and gloat.

My logo, myself.
It could all change tomorrow...
I'll take a triple espresso.

Depressing poem. "My Logo" is an egocentric imitation of the Logos of God. The speaker seems rather defeated and as a result has assumed a tone of flippant rebellion: a false posture of self-power from an internalized sense of powerlessness.

And yet, are we not all guilty of this?

Those are astute observations about what I was trying to convey: the feeling of postmodern, post-everything, loneliness amidst aggressive pretense: externals all the way day and loudly.

Thank you for reading and thinking this over!

Dr. Groothuis,

This is your best poem yet. Good lines, good rhythm, dead accurate. And humorous. A post-modern, anti-postmodern poem. Playfully mocking.

It resonates with "me".

A poet likes my poem! Exclamation everywhere...

I miss you and Michelle.
