Letter to the White House

[I sent this letter to the White House home page. Please pray about this terrible situation.]

Dear White House:

What is the Bush Administration doing about the man sentenced to death in Afghanistan because he converted to Christianity? America supposedly liberated this country from oppression in the hopes that it would be democratic and honor freedom of religion and speech. Yet an innocent man faces death for his faith. This is very wrong.

I encourage the White House to do everything possible to put pressure on Afghanistan to free this man and to reform its unjust laws.

Sincerely,
Douglas Groothuis

As sad as this case is, a far worse situation exists in North Korea, where believers are persecuted, tortured, and killed on a regular basis, solely for their faith in Christ. Yet one scarcely hears a peep about it anywhere. Add to that North Korea's unrelenting famine and the attendant starvation of its population, and you have a prime candidate for the most wretched place on Earth.

Yes, North Korea is under an evil regime. However, we did not free it from Islamofascism, so our options are more limited. We cannot exert much moral persuasion there. In any event, prayer is pivotal--as is wise foreign policy. South Korean Christians are beginning to evangelize the world in greater numbers than Americans (see the recent cover story in "Christianity Today"), and they yearn for their brethern to the North to be free, as should every Christian.
