I sent this to our two Colorado Senators

Dear Senator:

I read that 100 watt incandescent bulbs will be illegal to produce after 2012 and the same goes for 40 watts after 2014. If this is the law, it is a terrible imposition on the choices of American citizens.

My wife has chemical and environmental sensitiveness, and cannot stand fluorescent lights. They literally make her sick. This is true for millions of Americans as well.

Is there any provision for these environmentally sensitive people under this new oppressive legislation. If not, there should be.

Best,
Doug Groothuis

There are other types of lights, though they may not be cost effective for many people. LEDs have come a long way, but still have a long way to go. It is strange that our government can enact laws to stop incandescent bulbs, but cannot balance a budget work on any moral issues or any issue of great importance.

In addition to the less than appealing light, CF bulbs contain Mercury vapor to the level which is considered a Hazardous Material. Therefore, when the bulb is no longer functioning, you cannot simply throw it in the trash or recycling bin. It must be disposed of according to the local orinances relating to Mercury gas. How is this Environmentally Friendly?! Don't mandate the use of these CF bulbs. Presenting them as an option is fine, in addition to the other types of bulbs.

One other item, CF bulbs don't work in temperatures lower than 10 degrees F.
