Viola: Not So Sweet

I posted a comment at "A Jesus Manifesto" by Viola and Sweet. It was not favorable. See comment #82.

  1. link broken--I suspect your comment was removed?

  2. I have clicked on their comments and it only seems to go down to comment 81. If it has disappeared would you be able to post your critique on your blog? From my quick scan of Sweet et all it seems they present the typical false dichotomies that seem to plague certain writers in that camp.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  5. Dr. G.,
The link works, but your comment has been removed. That is quite telling of what Sweet/Viola think of the cogency of whatever you said; i.e., so cogent they don't want to deal with it. I would love for you to post it somewhere here as Michael Deal suggested.

    Thanks,

  6. Dr. Groothuis, I don't see comment #82 either. It stops at #81. Sometimes if you view the blog on the same machine from which you left the comment, your comment will show up. At the same time, it will not appear to anyone else from another computer. I saw this occur when I posted a negative comment to Peter Rollins' blog. I would like to see your post though!

I wrote Viola off after reading "Pagan Christianity," which a friend gave to me. The book, which many evangelicals seem to love, is only effective due to the mass historical amnesia of most evangelicals, as well as a weak knowledge of the bible. Big on scandalous, provocative claims, very small on sound argument and evidence; however, very effective on people predisposed toward conspiracy theories and Dan Brown's fiction.
Would have liked to have read your comment, but can only read up to comment 81 (wonder why?).

  8. Doc, Link works but it appears you have been "removed"? ... in "love, of course"?
