The Dark Side of Globalization

My church, Wellspring Anglican Church, is co-sponsoring a conference on human trafficking. This is from the web page:

The U.S. Department of State estimates between 600,000 and 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year. Millions more are enslaved within national borders. Human trafficking is truly a world-wide phenomenon -- paradoxically hidden in the shadows and out in the open for all to see.

This is part of the underside of globalization: a global slave trade has reemerged. Slavery even exists in the United States! Please attend this important conference, to be held at Greenwood Community Church on October 25. Please see Human Trafficking Awareness Conference for more.

As a DoD contractor I was recently required to take a course on human trafficking awareness. What I saw broke my heart.

It's a horrific problem that is fed by the most base instincts people have. May God grant mercy to those in such bondage.

What is DoD?

I'm pretty sure he meant Department of Defense. You sure post a lot for a guy who is an indefinite hiatus! ;-)

Glad to see you are still writing.

Department of Defense it is.

(And we use a lot of acronyms there. Sorry.)

Human Trafficking is at an all time high. There are more slaves in captivity today than ever before in human history (in terms of raw numbers of human beings in captivity). It is highly possible that there are more slaves (or slave-like status persons) in the U.S. TODAY than there were in the early 1800s!

Read the "Attorney General’s Annual Report to Congress on U.S. Government Activities to Combat Trafficking in Persons Fiscal Year 2006" here:

Learn, get educated, and you'll soon discover that this issue is one of the paramount moral issues of our day.

Where is the Church on this one?
Why don't I hear constant screaming from Christians in this nation to rise up and abolish slavery yet again?
