Doug Groothuis on Cyberspace from JETS

The Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society (JETS) has also put my article, "Christian Scholarship and the Philosophical Analysis of Cyberspace Technologies," 41/4 (December 1998): 631-40, on line as a PDF file. This paper is related to my thinking in The Soul in Cyberspace, but it developed in more philosophical depth.

I wish I would have read this before I got involved in an online discussion/debate with opponents of Intelligent Design.

One very obvious observation resulting from these cyber interactions was that participants are flagrantly disingenuous and rude. I would hope that they don't communicate to other people this way in person. It is rare that people behave this way in person, but common online. People pound on their digitized chests in cyberspace as a means to feed their egos, all the while hiding behind bits of data.

Cyberspace is an effective way to reach the masses, but it's also an effective way to misreprent Christ if we aren't more careful.

I was thinking of telling you that, but now you read the academic treatment and got the point.
