All lupus books I find are either full of statistics, symptoms, demographics and "what is lupus," and the lists of standard treatments...

or someone's autobiography on their journey with lupus (which often go into painful detail about their symptoms, with which I am already quite familiar first hand!)

i love hearing about what we think God expects of us, and how we might look through compassionate eyes.Carla Ulbrich, The Singing Patienthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15102866927457990437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14410967.post-34103785979535395622008-11-28T07:19:00.000-07:002008-11-28T07:19:00.000-07:00Doug:You (and the curmudgeon community!) may also ...Doug:

You (and the curmudgeon community!) may also be interested in the following title:

Kathryn Greene-McCreight, Darkness is My Only Companion: A Christian Response to Mental Illness. Grand Rapids, MI: Brazos Press, 2006.

I found this to be a profound reflection on the experience of mental illness. The author not only has suffered with mental illness herself (specifically debilitating depression and bipolar disorder), but is also a trained biblical theologian and Christian minister. I have a short review of the work on Amazon.com.

Raypennoyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02292918042143591009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14410967.post-53266329317282284722008-11-27T22:15:00.000-07:002008-11-27T22:15:00.000-07:00I am glad this was helpful and pray the book will ...I am glad this was helpful and pray the book will minister to you and your wife. There is another book called "Beyond Chaos," written specifically for "the healthy one" married to a chronically ill person. It is not as good at Rotholz's, but has some helpful insights. Further, it is the only book of its kind that I know of--although there are books written on living with a depressed person. As you know the chronically ill are often chronically depressed as well.

See also www.whereisgod.netDouglas Groothuis, Ph.D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08766692378954258034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14410967.post-85937020222031481372008-11-27T21:48:00.000-07:002008-11-27T21:48:00.000-07:00As the husband of a woman who suffers severely fro...As the husband of a woman who suffers severely from the chronic pain of fibromyalgia, I am glad that someone is addressing these issues in a Christian context.

I'll be looking up this book for sure.

Thanks so much for this review.Darrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09516232190711003316noreply@blogger.com
